Animation portfolio - Carlijn Groenhuizen
I enjoy working with physical materials, so I decided to try something new: clay modeling a character for an animation. It's different from digital work, but it's authentic and a delightful process.
I really enjoy creating art, but I often feel that I'm not very good at making 'good' art. So I like to practice measurements and proportions by drawing based on pictures like this. I think it's a good starting point for a cute character with a story.
One of the things I love about creativity is the endless combinations and possibilities. For example, this collage illustration I made using papers I painted and ripped into pieces to create new art. I added details with pencil, and I really enjoyed this mixed media experiment. I would love to try it with animation very soon.
For my portfolio, I wanted to create a mixed-media animation using my new supplies, specifically crayons. Although I didn't have enough time to complete the project, these were my initial ideas for the animation.
1920 x1080 / I mostly draw flat, simple characters from the same angle. Therefore, I wanted to experiment with different emotions and angles to try something new and focus a little more on character design.
1920 x 1080 / Inspired by the room of story illustration, I made a three-panel story featuring the detective residing there. This format enabled me to expand upon the storyline and spotlight various aspects of it.
00:10 / 1080 x1920 / I've decided to embark on a new creative venture: pixel art. It's a captivating style that I find both intriguing and enjoyable to work with, offering exciting possibilities for both drawing and animating. I look forward to delving deeper into this art form.
1920 x1820 / I love storytelling. An image has the power to convey a narrative if the viewer begins to search for signs and clues within it. They can discover and interpret the story hidden within.
Nature is a beautiful thing that tells many stories, so I decided to use it as inspiration to create an illustration that tells a story about the habitat of a bear.
00:21 / 1080 x 1920 / This animation depicted the challenges I faced while juggling my final school project, work commitments, artistic endeavors, and leisure activities all at once. Despite the overwhelming workload, I managed to navigate through it and find success.
With spring breaking through, it inspired me to create a colorful illustration using paint, showcasing the beauty of nature flourishing once more.
1080 x 1920 / I've crafted a self-portrait using colored pencils, a new challenge for me. It's my first time drawing myself, but I'm aiming to capture my personality and seeing that my life is also a story I control.
566 x 566 / My favorite game is Stardew Valley. In this game, I decide my own story and live a different life. It allows me to escape real life for a moment, which is a powerful aspect of storytelling. I created an illustration as an homage to the pixel art game in my own style.
